The Space Pilot has been great so far. I've used it for about a month and it works really well with Rhino 3D. I was also pleasantly surprised when it worked automatically in our dimension 3D printer's software. Using it in Illustrator /Photoshop has been sluggish, but admittedly pointless as it's easier to move around the 2D space with keyboard shortcuts in my opinion. I had the basic 3Dconnexion Space Navigator prior to buying the space pilot. I would say the Navigator is not worth the $$ considering it only has 2 programmable keys and that's just not enough if you're using a professional CAD tool.

The 3Dconnexion SpacePilot connects you to the 3D design process like never before. Its optical sensor technology and ergonomic design combine to deliver unprecedented control and fewer distractions. Use the SpacePilot in your non-dominant hand to position, rotate, pan and zoom your model in one single, fluid motion. Use the mouse with your other hand to simultaneously edit the model or select menu items. 50% fewer mouse clicks. 30% more productivity. Gone are the days when 3D navigation meant endless mouse clicks to move around an object or to fly through space and remembering how to change views and control objects within the X, Y, Z axes... one tedious step at a time. Plus, it is no longer necessary to remember different application's unique commands for manipulating 3D objects or scenes. With 3Dconnexion's SpacePilot, you simply push, pull, tilt or twist the SpacePilot's controller cap to simultaneously pan, zoom and rotate 3D imagery. Y
